Style before comfort in Melbourne

Today I’m posting from the fashion Mecca that is Melbourne….well actually from my mother in law’s house on the eastern outskirts.   I’m lying in bed with blistered and aching feet pondering yesterday’s shopping experience.

I wore platform wedge heels yesterday because I didn’t want to look like a tourist.  I also wore them out of respect for my dear friend Mike from Chicago.  He was one of the fashion icons of my youth – always immaculately on trend and ultra coiffed in his signature aquanet enhanced bleached blond spike.  He hammered the phrase “style before comfort” into my psyche.  If ever I want to leave my house looking like a dag, Mike’s mantra saves me from fashion disaster.

Teetering around Melbourne in heels I felt more a part of the place.  I enjoyed the people watching.  The ladies of Melbourne exude a confident elegance not found in Hobart.  They take more risks and really live and breathe “style before comfort” forming a colorful part of the cityscape.  One woman wore the most amazing semi sheer micro pleated navy blue dress with hints of orange peeking out from underneath.  While the dress was amazing, it was the shoes that really struck me.  Who knew you could get seperated toe heeled ankle boots?   She was definitely rocking mountain goat punk!

  1. Surely you cannot be comfortable getting around in those high heels? and suffering blisters at the end of the day only leaves you in a worst condition for shopping the following day.

Do as I do and always put comfort before style. You may look like a total dag but at least you will be comfortable!

May the blessings of thousand goat herders provide relief to your blisters.

  2. Many thanks for your kind blessings and sage advice G! The mighty goat herders have indeed answered my prayers and have reinvigorated my aching feet for today’s shopping expedition to Westfield Knox. I wore a lovely pair of flats which were not so daggy but oh so comfortable. Thanks for reading – I had no idea anyone was 🙂
