After 15 years of schlepping for corporate the time has come for this punk to hit the road and have a break. The blog has been very quiet since 2012 which, oddly enough, was the last time I had a decent holiday. So here I am in seat 7F in Emirates Business Class drinking a mojito and enjoying the fruits of my corporate slog.
It wasn’t easy getting here. I’ve endured a couple of extremely busy and challenging years at the corporate. It’s easy to talk yourself out of going on leave when you invest so much in what you do. With help, I’ve learned to let go and have handed over to some very capable people. Mind you, I did provide them with a 7 page handover document and a plethora of user guides because that’s how I roll. I haven’t given any thought to work which is AWESOME!
The journey started today in Hobart. They day didn’t start out all that well….our chauffeured car didn’t arrive and we had to catch a cab. Looking back, it was a sign of things to come. We arrived at the airport at 8AM for a 9:45 departure super excited (and super tired from lack of sleep) ready to start the 4 flight journey to Istanbul. Unfortunately the Melbourne weather put a damper on things for us. All flights out of Hobart were delayed due to Melbourne fog. We didn’t leave Hobart until 3:30PM! 6 hours at Hobart airport in the Qantas lounge sucked. Thank God they opened the bar at midday.
Anyhow we landed in Melbourne as our flight to Dubai was boarding. Lucky for us we are runners and we did a mad sprint through the airport (of course we landed at the furthest possible point from the international terminal). I didn’t get a chance to do duty free shopping or relish in the moment of traveling outside Australia as an Australian for the first time. We made it on board and now I sit here now with a glass of Moët waiting for my gourmet meal arrive.
Business class is a revelation! Just now the flight attendants have set my tray table with a white linen tablecloth. It’s crazy and I love it. From the Bvlgari toiletry kit to the lie flat bed I feel like the rockstar I never was. I’ve got to wrap this up because entree is served.
I love traveling corporate punk style!
Sorry, nothing found.
