The Journey

After 40 hours of travelling we arrived in Istanbul! The journey in Emirates Business Class was absolutely sensational. The food and drink service was fantastic and it was great to be able to lie flat and have a snooze. We had a brief stop over at Changi Airport in Singapore. The highlight there was the cleanest public toilet in the world! They are very feedback driven in Singapore and they actually ask you to rate your toilet experience on the way out…seriously.

Once we landed in Dubai for our epic 6 hour stop over the magic stopped. We must have landed in the old terminal as it looked a bit sad. Spending 6 hours in Dubai airport was slightly better than spending 6 hours at Hobart but only just. The free internet doesn’t work and neither does it in the Heineken Lounge where I cracked a cold one at 8:30AM. We met Pierre and Sophie (from Amsterdam and Coppenhagen) who were on their way to AUS.

Finally, we get on the plane to Istanbul. This time in cattle class (we were too stingy to go Business the whole way), talk about a rude awakening! We got the worst seats on the flight, right in front of the toilets and right next to 3 kids who insisted on pressing the call button every 10 seconds. The seats were so tiny and I wonder how the hell I every flew economy ever.

After the longest 4 hours of our lives we landed in Istanbul super excited and ready to get the holiday started. We waited longingly at the baggage carousel for our gear to arrive. It never made it. Once we logged our lost baggage claim we awaited our hotel transfer which thankfully was there (we had our doubts!).

Istanbul… here we come!
