Last Sunday John (my partner in crime and running) took ran the City to Surf in Sydney. It seems like an absolute lifetime ago but it was only 8 days ago! Corporate life kind of does that to time….
This was certainly the biggest event we have ever participated in since taking up running 3 years ago and the first time we’ve raced outside Tasmania. Sydney certainly puts on a show for this run. The scenery itself is spectacular and the entertainment along the course was encouraging and amazing. My favourites were Red Foo at the start line and the 80s rock cover band in full mulletted glory who did an awesome version of the gunners’ ‘Welcome to the Jungle’.
The 14km run started in Hyde Park and snaked its way along the coast to Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach. Over 80,000 people ran the race and there were 4 start times. We were in the Blue group that started at 8:30AM. We ran it in 1:22:55 which isn’t a bad effort! I finished in the top 20% of females and I’m happy with the result.
The City to Surf is all about fanfare and celebration – don’t run this race if you want to run PBs but do come to soak up all Sydney has to offer. They even give you free transport on trains, buses and ferries all day. I loved walking around town with my medal around my neck. To top off the look we got some Australia jumpers from Paddy’s Market and we could have passed as real athletes. Awesome day with great memories. I’m thinking it may become an annual thing.
Sorry, nothing found.
